Johanna Christiana Fischer

Johanna Christiana Fischer (1733–1800) was a German composer. Employed as a music copyist and theatre director for the Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Fischer was active in London as a performer, composer, and a teacher. This portrait was painted around 1780.

Photomanipulation after Gainsborough.

  1. VERY CLEVER again....

I looked at the Gainsborough painting of Johann Fischer. He looks so distracted and dignified and well dressed, as befits a distinguished composer.

But of course in this new world he would not need velvet breeches or coat, or ruffled shirt, or buckled shoes or stockings or a powdered wig. And Gainsborough would not be painting him.

He would not be allowed to compose at all - just stay at home while Johanna creates....
